Emmy Rossum’s Manhattan Apartment Renovated With the STARK Touch
Emmy Rossum’s Manhattan Apartment Renovated With the STARK Touch

Emmy Rossum’s renovated NYC apartment, designed by Antonino Buzzetta and recently featured in ELLE DECOR, is the latest celebrity space to put STARK on the stage.

After moving into a one-bedroom co-op in a prewar building near the East River, Rossum worked with ELLE DECOR to help find just the right designer. Enter Brooklyn-based Buzzetta, who stood out for his signature style, one that encapsulates the here and now without sacrificing a traditional vision of glamour. To find out a little bit more about what inspired these gorgeous rooms, we spoke with Buzzetta.

"Emmy wanted a chic, European feel to the apartment," he told us. "I wanted to deliver just that but with the modern conveniences of today. The 'old fashioned' touches help convey that feeling."

"For the bedroom l wanted to create a room where Emmy could get some brief respite from the craziness of the city. This gorgeous rug was the obvious choice as it is as easy on the eyes as it is soft underfoot, and although oriental, I felt it added to the European feel throughout the rest of the home." - Buzzetta
The actress loved the space, but knew that it needed a lot of work. The new kitchen was refitted completely, with custom fridge-obscuring cabinets and a dishwasher, as well as a washer and dryer. Then, of course, there’s the antique runner in the kitchen, a piece that could have only come from STARK: an antique Feraghan from northwest Persia circa 1900, one of many lovely pieces from an extensive antique collection.

"Like all of my designs, I love marrying the old with the new.  Although diminutive in size, this runner is big and bold with color - a wonderful contrast to all the dark cabinetry.  If this little gem hadn't ended up on Emmy's floor, it most definitely would have ended up on mine!" - Buzzetta

Two other gorgeous rugs grace the floors of this apartment as well: an antique Persian in the living room and a STARK piece in the bedroom, a new oriental, one-of-a-kind Oushak reproduction. In the ELLE DECOR feature, Buzzetta stated, “We brought in tons of rugs. Because the colors are so rich, and they change all the time with the light, you have to see them in place to know if they work.” Rossum added to this: “It's the same reason you paint samples of different colors on the wall. You have to see them.”

Buzzetta also appreciates working with STARK on this project. "Honestly, working with STARK is a relief," Buzzetta stated. "I always know that I'll be receiving superior quality products with timeless appeal. Plus, the people working in the showroom are as wonderful and varied as the selection of rugs on hand. I could easily spend all day in there!"
