Kapito Muller's NY Aesthetic in Beverly Hills
Kapito Muller's NY Aesthetic in Beverly Hills
We’re no stranger to Kapito Muller Interiors on the World of STARK; not only did we include their tone-on-tone palettes and minimally-patterned rugs in our round-up of 2017 trend predictions – exemplified by a room in this particular project, no less – but they were also the very first firm to be featured in the Design Showcase.

A recent Architectural Digest piece showcased the monochromatic beauty of an airy Beverly Hills home Kapito Muller Interiors lately designed; with STARK in the picture, we had to know more, and Alyssa Kapito was kind enough to answer some questions for us. Below, gaze upon the STARK rugs featured in this gorgeous coastal bungalow and find out more about why the New York-based firm decided to take on an assignment all the way across the country.

The kitchen.

As their first project outside of the city, they naturally felt a bit anxious about taking it on because they couldn’t check in on it at a moment’s notice. After a great deal of research and finding trustworthy vendors, the entire process turned out to be pretty easygoing with few surprises.

With a bicoastal background – the husband is a California native, while the wife is a Manhattan transplant – it made perfect sense that the clients would be drawn to the tailored visual aesthetic that Kapito Muller Interiors is so well-known to craft. In fact, they were specifically chosen because the clients loved their use of texture over pattern and color.

“We find that focusing on texture is both timeless and relaxing, and often we find patterns to be overly stimulating,” Alyssa stated.

The duo likes to use a lot of fabrics like mohair, leather, linen, and silks to create contrast without overwhelming the space. “The effect is to create calming, clean-looking spaces,” Alyssa added. “In this project, we used a ton of linen since it's great for warmer climates.”

STARK can be seen twice in the home; the massive rug in the family room is a Treemont in the colorway Sandstone. It was chosen because they wanted something with the same feel as a casual sisal but constructed of wool instead, as that is easier to clean and so soft on the feet.

“The rug was wonderful since it blended right into the gorgeous white oak floors.”

Another STARK piece in the home is the gorgeous silk rug in the bedroom, Glitz in the colorway Sterling. While the duo often uses custom carpets, they did not in this project simply because the clients are a young family. “Rugs are hard with kids, so we chose options that could be easily cleaned,” Alyssa elaborated – truly proof that the practical can indeed be quite beautiful, as well.

“We absolutely adore STARK and have been loyal customers since we started our business, not only because the product is incredible and reliable but also because the customer service is amazing as well.”
