Hand-tufted rugs are created by using a hand-held tool that punches the yarn through a canvas backing. Both cut pile and loop piles can be achieved. A second fabric, generally cotton, is then attached to the back of the carpet to hold the yarn in place. Hand-tufted carpets are typically heavier weight and have a higher, dense pile that is a wonderful soft layer underfoot. Additional details, like carving and shearing, can be used to create different dimensions and textures in the rugs and carpet.
